About Collective Soul
Collective Soul is a rock band that was formed in Stockbridge, Georgia but is now based out of Atlanta. The band currently consists of lead vocalist Ed Roland, rhythm guitarist Dean Roland, bassist Will Turpin, drummer Johnny Rabb, and lead guitarist Jesse Triplett.
Early Years
The band actually got its start before it was even formed. Ed Roland studied music composition and guitar at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. And since the mid-1980s, Roland was part of Atlanta’s underground music scene. He performed and made demos and even worked at Reel 2 Reel Studios in Stockbridge. He also recorded and released a solo album around this time.
AFter this, he recruited other musicians to join a band called “Ed-E” where they played local shows and played a part in a CBS Movie of the Week. But the band dissolved due to musical differences between its members.
So Roland made a new band recruiting some musicians who would become Collective Soul members later.
Collective Soul
Then 1992 came and Roland’s band at the time took on the name, Collective Soul. The band got its start with an independently released album the following year. Originally the band was a hidden gem, but they went from obscurity to popularity with the release of the single “Shine” that became a hit on radio play.
But Collective Soul’s lead vocalist says that the band’s true debut album came in 1995 with the release of their self-titled album. Collective Soul spent an incredible 76 weeks on the Billboard 200 and went on to go triple-platinum as certified by the RIAA.
Today, the band is still making music and recently released their album, Vibrating on August 12, 2022.
